Shooting with Juergen Teller and Alistair Mackie, #KNEONKID Adam Searle balances a high flying modelling career with making music, club promoting and studying at the Univeristy of Edinburgh. Born and raised in Manchester, the 21 year old model @ Tomorrow Is Another Day talks about creativity and passion.

When did you start modelling?

My first modelling job was a shoot in November 2013 but it wasn’t published till the following summer, and my first shows were in Paris in January 2014 for AW14 collections.

Could you tell us about something you found surprising/ exciting about getting into modelling?

I didn’t expect it to be anything at all when I was stopped on the street by Eva Gödel (the director at TIAD - who, by the way, is one of the most inspirational people I have ever met)... she just ran up to me and said “hey I really think you should model for my agency” and to be quite honest I didn’t really know anything about how modelling works, or that there were agencies, or that TIAD was a really cool one to be with. I signed the contract and thought nothing of it, then just a few weeks later I was on a plane to Venice to shoot the Marc Jacobs campaign with Jürgen Teller and Alistair Mackie. I just couldn’t believe how great everyone was. I expected the world of fashion to be full of egos and pomposity, but all the people I met on that shoot were so grounded and friendly. But most of all, they expressed this creativity that I’d never witnessed before! It was just fascinating seeing the world how they saw it, and I feel that with every single job since I’ve had this unique and amazing opportunity to be completely involved with someone else’s vision – an experience I’m really grateful for.

What are your daily creative outlets?

I produce music on Ableton live using Abelton push, a kaoss pad and a roland SP404 linear wave sampler. Whenever I have time I kind of just sit down and work on music, its nice working on a track or an idea intermittently as opposed to spending days and days back to back.

Name two songs you’re addicted to right now.

Sound Stream – Makin Love Voices from the Lake – S.T.

Best time waster?

Trawling through DJ mixes and reviews of new music for ideas and tracks is a great way to spend a day, although I don’t suppose it’s completely wasted. My biggest time waster has got to be scrolling through Instagram, as sad that sounds it's a great place for looking at the worlds of fashion and art at a glance.

Catwalk vs. DJ set; which gives more adrenaline?

Catwalk must be a bigger adrenaline rush at the time, its like you turn up and walk for 3 minutes and make years of hard work seem worthwhile for the people involved. However, nothing is more satisfying than looking up from playing a set which you’ve had time to develop and explore to see a crowd having a great time.

Ideal set-up to DJ?

2 x CDJs, 2 x Technics SL1200 turntables and an Allen & Heath Xone92 mixer.

The best part about juggling an international modelling career with student life in Edinburgh.

I get to go away a lot for a few days at a time, which lets me see a lot of the world I guess I’d otherwise not see. Coming back to my friends in Edinburgh is the best, and as I’m only away for short periods of time, I never get ‘fear of missing out’ too bad!

Besides your phone, a belonging you always have with you?

I’ve got this minging habit of collecting old receipts and train tickets, its not that I collect them or anything (that would be weird) but I always see my wallet looking huge and get all excited to be disappointed with whats inside.

Five years from now – what is your dream situation?

A job where I’m working with interesting and inspiring people in an exciting place!

At 22, young London designer Gigi Ettedgui, is the itinerant free spirit balancing time between university and assisting the creative director of Universe Femme at Hermes Paris. GIGI RECENTLY LAUNCHED CLOTHING LINE RAIL. She is photographed by Lucy Henshall at the Rail Pop Store in Edinburgh wearing her own creations.

WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO GIVE US A SHORT-HAND VERSION OF ONE OF YOUR WILDEST EXPERIENCES?

Possibly the twelve-hour ferry journey I took with my business partners, Hugo and Ariadne, to the Shetland Islands to source our knitwear for Rail. Twelve hours in the North Sea in gale force winds, rather wild. Especially when faced with the inevitability of the return journey twelve hours later.

DREAM JOB?

One which feels like play.

Gigi wears beige captain's jacket - £250 with dungarees - £220. Both from RAIL

HOW DO YOU BALANCE STUDENT LIFE IN EDINBURGH, WITH WORKING IN PARIS FOR HERMES?

I don’t think I do! A lot of the time, I feel as if I am trying to do too many things at once. But I think it’s the variety that keeps me happy. I wouldn’t change anything. I feel very lucky to be able to combine my dream job in Paris with my university experience. Schoolwork has taken a step back this term, especially with the launch of Rail. But university for me has always been a lot more than academia. I love my friends and I love my work, so the sleep deprivation and travel is worth it.

DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO/ SOME PERSONAL RULES THAT YOU LIVE BY?

I think Woody Allen’s ‘Showing up is 80 percent of life’ is a pretty good start.

Gigi wears beige captain's jacket - £250 with dungarees - £220. Both from RAIL

WHEN, IN TERMS OF WORK, DO YOU FEEL MOST FULFILLED?

Always at the beginning. I hate leaving places and I hate endings. I find that ending any project, along with the feeling of exhaustion and pride comes a sort of creative comedown. That’s why I always make sure I have another project in sight to focus on. Either that, or a really good holiday.

Gigi wears beige dungarees from RAIL - £220

YOU RECENTLY RELEASED YOUR FIRST COLLECTION OF CLOTHING, RAIL, WITH TWO OF YOUR CLOSEST FRIENDS, WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST HURDLE YOU HAD TO OVERCOME, AND WHAT WAS THE MOST REWARDING PART?

In a way, that’s quite a difficult distinction to make. As I find that it’s normally the biggest hurdles from which you reap the greatest rewards. It has been a wonderful experience and a massive learning curve. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to work with such talented partners, and even luckier that they happen to be my best friends.

Gigi wears a Blue serge suit from RAIL - sample piece

DO YOU EVER DOUBT YOURSELF?

All the time. But I think that’s what drives me to keep on working.

Gigi wears a red dressing gown from RAIL- £145

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I’ve been very lucky to be surrounded by people that inspire me throughout my life. My parents in particular for their style, vision and tenacity. The mentors I have been lucky to have, whether Jean Touitou at APC, who gave me my first job or my boss at Hermes, Bali Barret. I think it’s beauty that inspires me, whether it’s a Richard Serra painting, Jacques de Bascher or walking through a flea-market in Paris.

#KNEONKID Shirley Yu is a photographer, photo-director and photo-editor. Young and motivated, Shirley shares feelings about being a creative soul in NYC. In this shoot by Milo Selchaif, Shirley wears clothing by NOT.

What is the funnest part of what you do?

It’s really exciting to meet artsy and eclectic creatives, like designers. I grew up in the suburbs, so everything was ordinary. I’m really interested in individuals who are exceptional and extraordinary.

What is your biggest motivation as a photographer?

I grew up with the idea that I need to always be achieving at my highest potential, so my motivations are needing to compete with my own high expectations along with a deep-rooted fear of failure.

Crop Diag. Halter by NOT, $235

Do you have any habits that your friends know you for?

My friends know me for re-telling stories that I’ve told them before, because I’m so excited to tell a funny story that i tell everyone and then I forget who i’ve told my stories to!

When you aren’t shooting, how do you express yourself creatively?

I’m a photo director for a few publications (most heavily involved in Trim Magazine) so I’m producing and art-directing for a few college-age photographers that I’ve chosen to shoot for the publications I work with. Aside from shooting, I like being a photo editor, because it’s on the curatorial / commissioning side of the business, for a change.

Your favorite place in NYC to spend a day off?

I like to bring my hometown friends to this ramen joint, Zen 6, when I ask them to hang out with me in the city! There’s no good spots for ramen in the suburbs, in New Jersey. Zen6’s TanTan6 ramen is super spicy so I really like to go to this place!

A song that really gets you ready to go

“Competition” by Bebe Panthere, she’s a friend of mine, and I really like this album!

South Coast Ruby Lee is 18. The beach is her playground, but for work she is a model and wedding stylist. Ruby is honest and optimistic, she hates slugs and loves Jesus Christ.

What is your no.1 goal in life right now?

To save up enough money to road trip around the US of A. Have you ever seen that show called American pickers? Well these two guys travel around in a van, stopping at all these different places buying (picking) the raddest vintage pieces! Well that’s what I want to do!

Any quirky life hacks you swear by?

Well I don’t know if this is really a 'life hack', but I guess it is if you love ice cream as much as I do. I know a quick and easy 'cheats' recipe for salted caramel ice-cream. You just pop it in the freezer and then BAM ice cream, no churning at all!

What is your greatest source for clothing?

Op shops and markets! In fact I would say that’s where 90% of my clothing comes from... massive vintage lover right here!

The best moment from last weekend?

Winning a crochet bikini and pair of Stoned Immaculate Vintage sunglasses! First time I have won anything! So stoked!

When do you feel the most free?

Swimming in zee ocean
